Kickstart your career at Reed
Reed supports youth employment through the UK Government’s Kickstart Scheme, both as providers of placements across the Reed Group and as a Gateway Provider for smaller employers.
Improving lives through work – including over 1,000 unemployed young people in the UK
Every day Reed lives its purpose of ‘improving lives through work’; From helping FTSE100 companies fill vacancies, to helping those looking for work improve their CVs.
Reed’s involvement with the UK Government’s Kickstart Scheme began in 2020 and already we are supporting over 1,000 16-24-year-olds.
By the beginning of 2021 Reed has also enrolled 15 new starters across the Reed Group itself as part of the scheme, with more to come.
Kickstart is a government scheme that aims to get more 16-24-year-olds into employment. Engaged employers provide a six-month training programme to such individuals, covering all costs from the dedicated £2billion government fund.
Costs covered by the government include:
- 100% of the National Minimum Wage (or the National Living Wage depending on the age of the participant) for 25 hours per week for a total of six months
- associated employer National Insurance contributions
- employer minimum automatic enrolment contributions
A national gateway for employers
As an approved Gateway Provider, Reed is able to work with employers who want to offer Kickstart placements in their organisations but may not have all the resources needed to support a Kickstarter.
Part of the requirements for employer eligibility on the scheme is that Kickstart trainees must not only be trained up on the practical skills required on their work placement, but they must also be fully prepared for furthering their career beyond the scheme. Reed is proud to be able to offer a ‘wrap-around’ style solution to our employer partners placements which will see their trainees have access to a range of employability skills training.

Resourcing Support placements at Reed
“Our Resourcing Support placements offer Kickstarters the opportunity to experience the recruitment sector, working within a team and building effective communication skills.
With support throughout, the successful placement will end with the Kickstarter being able to look for their ideal role with a well-designed CV and improved employability skills to hopefully place them in the driving seat when applying for job vacancies.”
